What is a Good Faith Estimate?
A Good Faith Estimate provides you with the total expected cost of any non-emergency medical items or services. This comprehensive estimate includes all related costs, such as medical tests, prescription drugs, necessary equipment, and any associated facility fees.
Your Rights Regarding a Good Faith Estimate
To ensure you are fully informed about your healthcare expenses, please keep the following rights in mind:
Receive It In Writing: Your healthcare provider must give you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your scheduled medical service or item.
Request an Estimate: You have the right to ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you even schedule an item or service.
Save Your Copy: It's important to save a copy or take a picture of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.
How to Dispute a Bill
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute that bill.
